Frequently Asked Questions

  • Students can receive college credit, advanced placement, or both at most colleges and universities. The amount of credit and how the class is recognized varies on each individual college.  Use the AP Credit Policy Search tool from Collegeboard to find colleges and universities that offer credit or placement for AP scores.

Research shows that students who take at least 1 AP (Advanced Placement) class and exam, regardless of score on the exam, are more likely to complete college in 4 years. Check out this link to the College Board website to read more about the benefits: https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/about-ap/start-expand-ap-program/expand-access/impacts.  Students are also able to move into a higher-level class at college as a freshman. This translates into time and money savings in college as AP classes and exams can reduce the amount of classes and time needed to complete your undergraduate degree.

  • Students who feel qualified may take an exam in any AP subject area without taking the corresponding class provided BHS has the space and resources available to offer additional AP exams during the exam window.

  • AP exam days and times are dictated and only available on the day and time set forth by College Board.  They will always occur in the first two full weeks of May.

  • The AP grading scale is as follows:
              5  Extremely well qualified
              4  Well qualified
              3  Qualified
              2  Possibly qualified
              1  No recommendation
Most colleges and universities accept AP scores of 3 or above.

  • Students must pay for each exam taken unless they qualify for Free and Reduced lunch status.  Exam cost is configured in the beginning of the school year and is communicated out through our registration portal, Total Registration, as well as through the AP Classroom teachers.

  • Students will receive their grade report the July of each year which is available only through their College Board account.
