    PRACTICE SCHEDULE
    Starts: Tuesday, August 12
Time: Due to today’s weather, we will practice at 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM instead.
Location: Burlington High School - Tennis Courts

Once school begins, practices will be:
    3:20 PM - 5:00 PM | Varsity
    3:30 PM - 5:00 PM | JV

ITEMS NEEDED TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE: In order to participate in athletics at Burlington High School the following three requirements must be met:

    • The parent/guardian AND the student are expected to complete the online athletic registration together via a Google Form. The link will be emailed to all families in July 2025.
    • A current physical (dated on or after 4-1-24) must also be on file with the Athletic Office.
    • $125 Athletic Fee must be paid online via Skyward.
    • We need to have this PRIOR TO YOU BEING ALLOWED TO PRACTICE!

ATTENDANCE AT PRACTICE: Every Player, whether JV or V, is expected to be at EVERY practice.  Practices are not to be missed due to work, or appointments that can be scheduled around practice times.  Only if an athlete is absent from school, due to illness, should a practice be missed.  When there is an illness, an athlete who will be late, or a planned absence, will need to have a parent call, email, or send a note to your coach.

TEAMS:  We have two teams for tennis, a Varsity and a Junior Varsity, based on ability, not age/grade.  Players will “playoff” for spots on the two teams (time and weather permitting).  In addition, the coaches can/will also make a final determination at their discretion of where a player should be placed.

-In order to earn a varsity letter a player must play in at least 6 varsity matches.

MATCHES: Varsity consists of the best ten players and Junior Varsity will consist of all other players. All players should expect to play in matches scheduled, including Saturdays.  Saturday tournaments cannot be missed simply because you do not “feel like going”, they are scheduled and meant for all players to be played in.  All players will be assigned those team practices and meets on the schedule.

TEAM UNIFORMS:  A school issued team uniform will be given to each player before the first match.

ALTERNATE UNIFORM: It is also suggested that all players purchase an alternate uniform set and spirit wear. Online Store – TBD

    EQUIPMENT NEEDS:
    Tennis racquet
    Tennis shoes-no black soled shoes
    Water bottle
Please be sure to bring your own water bottle to every practice and meet!

TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM COMPETITIONS: School provides transportation to and from the competition. If it is necessary for the student to take alternate transportation from a competition with a parent, it must be communicated directly with a coach.

Here is what is offered the first week (January 5-9)

    GTS OFFSEASON LIFTING:
It is extremely important that our baseball players are involved in an off-season lifting and conditioning program. The High School offers a great opportunity with GTS trainers coming to BHS after school. I expect our players to be involved with this program unless they are currently training somewhere else. If you are participating in a winter sport, you are already working with GTS. If you have not signed up for the GTS after-school program, details are listed below.

    GTS WORKOUTS:
    3:00 PM – 5:15 PM | Mondays – Thursdays
    3:00 PM – 4:30 PM | Fridays

Players can sign up through Parent Square. If you have questions, you can ask Mr. Sulik in the Activities office-Out-of-Season Athletes: $30

    SPRING BREAK:
Our Spring Break is also the first official week of practice. We are extremely flexible with families going on spring break. The team will start practice on Monday, March 23rd, but if your family is going on Spring Break, we are asking you to be back for practice on Thursday, March 26th. We do know that families may have commitments the whole week, so if you will not be around that entire week, let Coach Staude know as soon as possible. Off-season work and attendance at open gyms are extremely important, especially for those who will be gone the first week of practice.

2026 Boys Tennis - Schedule & Bus Times *subject to change*

    PRACTICE SCHEDULE
    3:20 PM - 5:00 PM | Varsity
    3:30 PM - 5:00 PM | JV

ITEMS NEEDED TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE: In order to participate in athletics at Burlington High School the following three requirements must be met:

    • The parent/guardian AND the student are expected to complete the online athletic registration together via a Google Form. The link will be emailed to all families in July 2026.
    • A current physical (dated on or after 4-1-25) must also be on file with the Athletic Office.

Please email Ken Savaglia for more information regarding boys tennis.

    SEASON PREPARATION:
Open Gyms: We will be hosting open gyms, run by players with coaches supervising, offering off-season workout opportunities from mid-January to the start of our season in March. Please see ParentSquare for all open gym opportunities. Attend as many as possible; our program goals are to work hard, build connections with the team, have fun, and open gyms are part of this.

The first Open Gym is on Thursday, January 15: Pitching and catching open gyms are on Tuesdays/Wednesdays starting 1/13 and 1/14 from 4:20-5:10, depending on who rsvp’s. We need to rsvp to make sure we have enough catchers and pitchers.

Physicals and Sports registration requirement - Everyone needs to make sure they have a physical on file with a date of 4/1/25 or later. Please contact Mrs. Skiles in the Activities office for more information, or see the BASD Athletic Website for Athletic registration. YOU CANNOT PRACTICE if this isn’t done. You can attend off-season open gyms.

    TRYOUT SCHEDULE:

    • March 16-17 (2 days): Be prepared for both indoor and outdoor. Starting March 16-17, we will be practicing or playing games every night through the conclusion of the season.
      • Week #1: We will go from 3:10-5:00 if inside and 3:10-5:00 if outside.  Pitchers and catchers will stay 30 minutes after for the first couple of weeks.
      • Week #2 (Spring Break): Practices will vary. If we can go outside, we will have practices from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm.  If inside practice schedule may vary.

The schedule will be updated daily on ParentSquare. Girls should be prepared for Indoor or Outdoor practices each day.

Teams will be finalized on Tuesday, March 17.  Planning on Varsity and JV1 teams. With a huge freshman class this year, we may unfortunately have to make some cuts, as we will not have enough pitching to support 3 teams.

    IN-SEASON INFO & SCHEDULE:

It is expected that all players will attend practice every day unless prior approval or an unexpected illness occurs.  Players must be in school all day to attend practice or games unless they have an approved absence; academics are a priority.

JV - BHS provides HOME and AWAY jerseys, and pullover warm-ups. Players are responsible for plain black pants, black belts, and white socks.

If there is a financial hardship, please reach out to me, and we will work something out.

    PLAYING TIME & COMMUNICATION:

    Playing Time:
As we move through the season, coaches will try to be upfront with player roles, reasonable expectations for playing time, and how a player can work towards earning more playing time.

I know concerns will arise, and this is how we will handle them:

    1) Next day rule-wait and (player) talk to Varsity Coach or JV Coach in person before or after the following day’s practice or game. Coaches will also honor the next-day rule to talk to players about any concerns as well.

    2) After a player/coach conversation, a parent conversation can be considered. Parent involvement rarely helps a player’s concern.

3)The focus of these types of conversations will only be about the player and situation; coaches will never talk about any other players or parents.

    4) A coach always sees things differently, and you may think it's unfair, but ultimately it’s our responsibility to put the best team on the field. Coaches will try and utilize everyone on the roster, but sometimes that is just not possible.  Coaches will definitely try to give each player clear expectations about roles, playing time, and other player concerns.
